Marietta Fire Fighters Scholarship Fund

Purpose

To provide scholarships to students enrolled in an accredited college or university who are dependents of Personnel of the Marietta Fire Department.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be dependents (as described by the Internal Revenue Code) of a member of the Marietta Fire and Emergency Services for the City of Marietta, Ga.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in, or accepted by, an accredited college or university
  • The Marietta Fire Department must employ parent or Guardian.
  • Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 2.8 in order to apply for a scholarship. Preference will be given to candidates with an average in the range of 2.9 or higher.
  • Applicants who have completed at least one semester of college study must have a minimum cumulate 3.0 GPA.
  • All applicants must be a resident of the State of Georgia.
  • Submit a complete informational application
  • Submit an essay with the required information
  • Applicants may reapply annually
  • All applicants must meet all listed criteria
  • Applications will be considered on the basis of scholastic performance, leadership, financial need and the essay.
  • Selection is made without regard to gender, race, national origin, creed, age, martial status or disability
  • Scholarship monies will be granted on a yearly basis and applicants may reapply annually for additional scholarships
  • A High School transcript, G.E.D. or current G.P.A. must be attached to this application. (include 1st semester of senior year)
  • Scholarships grants will be transferred directly to the students account in the business office of the college or university for tuition and or book use. No outright distributions will be made. Should the recipient fail or drop out of the college or university (or drop below full time status as defined by the college or university) the scholarship will immediately be terminated and funds returned to the Marietta Fire Fighters Scholarship Fund.
  • Applicants must attach an essay of approximately 300 to 500 words on one of the following subjects:
    1. Career Fire Fighting-Service to the Public.
    2. Fire Fighter Occupational Hazards.
    3. Emergency Medical Service and the Fire Service
      • Applicants must demonstrate active Involvement in civic and / or extra-curricular activities.

Up to $1,500.00
